Hair extensions in summer
Discover 5 tips for taking care of your hair extensions during summer
Wearing hair extensions in summer is popular. This is the season where we attend important events such high school proms or weddings. In order to look our best, hair extensions become a must. However, you must keep in mind that hair extensions can be damaged during this hottest season of the year. Indeed, if the extensions are not taken care of properly, you will shorten the hair extensions lifespan. Here are 5 tips for taking care of hair extensions in summer.
The sun, salt water, and chlorine all have drying effects on the hair and can make it look limp and brittle. To combat moisture and shine loss, keep your hair hydrated with regular conditioning. For your natural hair, condition your hair from mid-shaft to ends, and use a leave-in conditioner once or twice a week.
1. Apply a small amount of coconut or argan oil whenever you need to smooth out frizz and add shine.
2. If you have clip in extensions, condition those in the sink
3. For bonded or tape-in extensions, you want to keep conditioner, lotion, and sunscreen away from them
Don’t over wash
Shampoo is designed to remove the oils on the scalp and hair, and washing too often can dry your hair out. If you have tape in or bonded extensions ,avoid scrubbing and rubbing your scalp too much when washing, to avoid loosening or roughing up the tape or bonds.
Try to shampoo no more than 2-3 times per week (even once a week if you can manage it)

Try no-heat styles
One of the great things about summer is the no-fuss, casual hair styling. As much as you can, let your hair dry, only rough drying the tape or bonds of your extensions, and avoid heat styling tools as much as possible.
Protect your hair
Leave-in conditioner, nourishing oils, and no heat styles can protect your locks at home, but your hair may still need some extra love and care this summer to keep it looking and feeling beautiful. Look for salon that offers keratin treatments, to replenish your hair with fortifying natural and proteins and strengthen your strands.
Don’t get wet too long
This tip is specific for hair extensions. With bonded hair extensions, it’s water that’s the biggest threat, which can make them more fragile. You can go swimming in bonded hair extensions, but be careful not to let them sit or soak in the water for too long.
While swimming, pull your hair into a braid or low bun to keep it from tangling. Towel dry or rough dry the base of your hair extensions as soon as you get out.
Brush every day
You want to make sure you’re brushing your hair everyday in the summer to avoid tangling and knots. Use a special brush made for extensions to prevent from yanking at them and pulling them out.
